Meet at 9:45 AM at Goodwin State Forest Headquarters parking lot, on right, 23 Potter Rd, off Rt. 6, Hampton, CT for 10:00 AM start.
Brisk 2 – 3 hour hike on well-marked Goodwin SF and CT Frst. & Prk. Assoc. Blue trails and woods roads on flat moderately hilly terrain. A “Hot Chocolate Stop” at half way point will bolster energy levels for the trip around Pine Acres Lake, back to the cars, after which we may retire to the Vanilla Bean in nearby Pomfret for lunch.
Colder conditions in Windham Co. necessitates warm, layered outdoor clothing covering extremities. Bring warm, wind-proof layers, mufflers, hats, gloves and consider gaiters if snow is present at home. Wear orange marker clothing, for hunters may be working adjacent open land.
Consult Hartford weather for local forecast and adapt for micro spikes, and/or snowshoes/hiking poles, as necessary. Bring water, your favorite hot beverage mix: tea, chocolate, instant coffee (for heating on leader-supplied stove), cup and optional snacks. Well-mannered, people-oriented, closely-leashed dogs welcome and please consider discretion with cell phone use.
Please consult the Pequot Cyclists website no later than 12 noon, Friday, Feb 9, for any notices pertaining to this hike, and finding none, this event will go as planned.
