Summer means it’s time for the test of truth —
you against the clock.
It begins the first Thursday in June, and will continue through August on Thursday nights. The first rider goes off at 6 PM.
Not sure what this is about — here’s the scoop. The course is a loop in Stonington starting just south of the golf course on Wheeler Road; then on to Pequot Trail, to Al Harvey Road, to Rt. 184, and back to Wheeler Road. The finish is right at the start line. The total distance is 10 kilometers. We start riders off at 30 second intervals, and with their times at the finish do the math and come up with everyone’s time on the course. We announce the times shortly after the last rider finishes. This is not a competition, it is a way for you to test yourself against the clock and track your individual progress throughout the summer.
We go through an approval process with Stonington and the State. Our permit to use the roads does not limit road use by other vehicles, so we must ride according to normal regulations and yield to traffic when required. We also ask the riders to be considerate of other road users when warming up or cooling down, and not ride two abreast blocking the lane.
Participation in the time trial is free to current Pequot members. You may park at the rear of the parking lot of the golf course. Just do not disturb the golfers as you ride to the start. Volunteers are needed to help make this event a success. We would like to have a bike holder at the start line, number callers at the finish, and flag people at critical intersections. If you can help, call Dave Reed (860-739-7483).
